منذ تأسيسه، يضع جاليري كرافتاستك سؤال المدينة في قلب برامجه الفنية والثقافية، انطلاقًا من إيمانه بأن الفن لا ينفصل عن المكان الذي يُنتج فيه. فالقاهرة، بوصفها موضوعًا للأعمال الفنية، ليست مجرد خلفية بصرية للأحداث، بل شريكًا فاعلًا في تشكيلها.
قد تبدو المدينة المادية ثابتة في حجارتها ومبانيها، واقعًا ملموسًا يمكن تحديده على الخريطة أو وصفه بالكلمات. إلا أن علاقتنا بها تظل في حالة تغيّر مستمر. فكل تجربة، وكل ذكرى، وكل نظرة جديدة تكشف وجهًا مختلفًا للمكان. وربما لهذا السبب لا تشبه القاهرة نفسها مرتين؛ فهي مدينة تتعدد صورها بقدر تعدد من ينظرون إليها.
يجمع هذا اللقاء ثلاثة فنانين سبق أن عرضوا أعمالهم في جاليري كرافتاستك، وقدّم كل منهم قراءة مختلفة للقاهرة من خلال معرضه:
• محمد عبلة في معرض «القاهرة: نسيج الحكايات»
• عزة عزت في معرض «ما بين المخطط والمعاش»
• خالد عبد الرحمن في معرض «قباب وأشجار البوينسيانا»
ويدير الحوار الكاتب الصحفي ياسر سلطان.
يناقش الفنانون كيف تتشكل صورة المدينة في أعمالهم، وكيف يمكن للمكان نفسه أن ينتج حكايات ورؤى وتجارب مختلفة، تبعًا للخلفيات الشخصية والإبداعية لكل منهم.

The Ever-changing Streets of Cairo
Is there only one Cairo, or does each of carry their own Cairo in their minds?
Since its founding, the CRAFTASTIC Art Gallery has placed the discourse of Cairo at the heart of its artistic and cultural programme, driven by the belief that art cannot be separated from the place where it is conceived. As subject of artistic works, Cairo is not merely a scenic backdrop, it is an active participant in shaping them.
The material city may appear fixed in bricks and stones, a solid reality that can be marked on a map or described in words. Yet our relationship with it is constantly changing. Every experience, every memory, and every new glance reveal a different face of the place. The ever-changing streets of Cairo have captivated authors, artists and ordinary people for generations.
This discussion brings together three artists who have previously exhibited at CRAFTASTIC Gallery, each offering a distinct interpretation of Cairo through their work:
• Mohamed Abla, in Cairo: A Tapestry of Tales
• Azza Ezzat, in Cairo: Between the Planned and the Lived
• Khaled Abdelrahman, in Domes and Trees in Blossom
The discussion will be moderated by journalist and writer Yasser Sultan.
Together, the artists will reflect on how the image of the city takes shape in their work, and how the same place can generate different stories, perspectives, and experiences depending on each artist’s personal and creative background.
The event takes place alongside Domes and Poinciana Trees, currently on view at CRAFTASTIC Gallery.

We present Cairo neither as an ancient, historical image nor as a modern one viewed from a distance, but rather as a living city shaped by its inhabitants, where formal planning collides with lived, daily reality, creating complex visual compositions that express the city as experienced in its fleeting moments and constant transformations.
In her works, Azza observes invisible layers of Cairo, shaped by memories, impressions, and daily encounters, blending visual documentation with personal impressions.

In this iteration of the project Azza invites other artists and practitioners in an open studio setting to think about the ways in which this urban experience can be understood but also processed visually and artistically through different practices and mediums. Azza together with artists will engage in three intensive sessions about: human and non-human experience in the urban environment, everyday experiences of the web interactions that take place in the urban surroundings (with structural and non-structural elements) and the spatial strategies that are used to navigate this urban space and reality.
Each session will be followed by an open studio where artists and participants will share with the public a moment of reflection and experimentation

Memory Embodied is an exhibition at the intersection of the social and conceptual— the collective memory of ten artists from Cairo and beyond; (em)bodied. The exhibition opens on Friday, December 2nd, at 5 PM; and runs every day from 10 AM to 9 PM until December 15th at the Falaki Gallery, downtown Cairo.

The world has suffered and is still suffering the wide-ranging changes that have occurred over the past two years and Darb 1718 was no exception. We went dormant for two years as we were coping as well with those overwhelming changes. Three months ago, we decided that we will come back again as the world, now more than ever, needs a glimpse of joy and hope in the face of the fear and the anxieties that consume us everyday. Arts and culture, we believe, is what keeps us humane, and give us purpose. Hereby, we invite for our comeback exhibition on November 3rd.

As Bibliothek launches its first annual program, and we initiate a dialogue with the city we live in with all its complexity and vastness, we invite contemporary artists to engage with us in a process of discovery. To explore what it means to live in a city like Cairo, here and now, and what kind of artistic methods, processes and and we initiate a dialog expressions can this take. Imagining A Landscape is an exhibition that showcases the work of several contemporary artists who individually reflect on the many possibilities of what a view of our surrounding environment might look like today.
The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday 26th February 2022 starting 10:00 am
